Interesting to see the contrasting riding styles! Thanks!

As the official picture afficianado of The Forum, please accept my deepest thanks!
I like many of them, but especially that one of Hopkins in '08.

Also, I have read that Yorge is sporting an Iron Man helmet this weekend. So far neither Scott Jones nor the Dorna corporate folks have seen fit to share that with us, and I'm starting to get a little impatient...

Next on my list and making the colors pop, and finish converting the RAW photos to jpg so i can get those on the site as well. Hope you all enjoy. it was fun. cant wait till next year.

Last year, Captain America. This year, Iron Man. Next year, the Hulk? Thor?
Someone should get Marvel involved in time for the movie.

Where were you for all those hard braking shots? The end of the "back straight"? Even though I've seen so many like this and know what to expect, I'm still amazed at the fork compression and how they look like they're crashing (especially the ones with Stoner's leg dangling out)!

yup. i was right at the end of the fence of the back stretch breaking to go into turn 10. Great place to shoot. To bad the fence was in the way, could of gotten better shots of the foot off, and the rear tire on a few coming off the ground

Don't take it as me dis-ing your work but the pics are good but lack some 'movement'. They look frozen and don't convey the impression of speed. Try a slower shutter speed and pan more.Don't be afraid to try some effects like 'zoom in'. Here are a couple of pics a friend took at the AMA Undilla mx, had lots of pics these 2 turned out very good.

not in focus but this looks fast

i know they lack movement. the area that you can shot from is not the best to get movement. you are dealing with crowds of people elbow to elbow looking thru slots in fences. and the spots that you can shot with out fence is even more crowded. also alot of pics from moto gp photographers capture more still in the turns cause they are going so slow you would have to turn your speed way down, but most shots in the turns are for head on and you can not get those as a fan from the side. I only posted a few, and the rest are on my web site of different speeds and getting motion blur. And dont take this as me dis-int the photos as well, but the two photos are out of focus and lacking detail. I rather have detail in the photo i take then lack of. Also i know the speeds of motocross and to get that kind of blur had to been extreamly low. But if you seen my Indy Car or Nascar i do catpure motion blur when i can with the area i can. Sometimes you have to shoot whats goign to work to get a clean sharp photo then worry about if the background is moving when shooting as a fan from the stands.

I'm with you. There's room for both styles in the world, but I am much more drawn to the crisply detailed shots. It is a difficult combination to achieve - the appearance of speed, but in sharp detail and natural lighting - but those are the shots that are my favorites. It has become evident to me that several of the circuits do not offer many opportunities for that. Myriad details from position relative to the action all the way to orientation with the sun affect even the opportunity for a good picture, never mind the .001 second accuracy necessary to get the great shots.

Having said that, I'm still upset that good shots over the Corkscrew seem to be so hard to get... ;)

Thanks. I just had to make the choice of where i was at. And i went for the clean photo. And from looking at other settings around me on cameras, alot was doing the same. Was shooting at 400 and f5-f8. Depending on what i changed my ISO too.

Area i was shooting had no clean line of site to pan with. Standing with a guy behind me, and he was pinned to the fence, and a guy in front of me, and two or three over looking my shoulder. Backstrech of the track, fence along the whole back stretch till start of the turn. So you could not get the rider in focus till he was out of line of the fence. By that time you had to needed to have your focus in manual, or a really good auto to capture him going from 100+ to breaking hard into a turn with little room to pan. Other spots on the track was shooting thru an eye hole pretty much. You could not stand up straight, or crouch. It was in between, keeping your camera out of sight of the box shaped opening in the fence to get a clean shot. Not to mention this was in turns 7-8 and i was on the grass mound and was zoomed out at 300mm. But i still had fun, i still like what i got photo wise, and one thing i like is its clean, clear, and crisp. Just needs some color pop and sharpening in photo shop. I can always add motion blur if i want, but it also helps me to make some more painting looking photos and add graphics to it.

oh...and not to mention the private sponsor viewint area that took up the rest of turn 10 with NO FENCE in the way shade of trees, and could see down the batch stretch, thru turn 10 into 11 and 12 and more...was blocked off.....hence the fence the guy behind me was pinned too lol. Ya. lot of choice words from the group bunched together.

I'll take clarity, detail and attractive composition over artificial speed effects.

My eye doesnt see fast guys as blurry, so I dont want my pics that way.

I am not dissing anyones work or tastes, just saying what I like best.
