:D I see what you mean, just saying Abraham is no better or worse than any other candidate. But what are the options?

Glad you asked......

First, as I've written (ad nauseum) I don't agree Abraham was the best candidate, just the one most financially attractive.

In JoeKing's perfect MotoGP world, the class would be for 2 types(?) of riders..the potential race winners, & the "upwardly mobile" newer entries trending toward eventually joining the first group. Give a prospect 1-3 years to show potential, if not out you go, presuming there is someone showing more promise waiting in the wings.

If we agree the raison d'etre of the series is to provide spectators the best show; I see no reason to keep the (mal)lingerers like Capirex, Edwards, (pains me to say) Hayden (on a Ducati) & (strike me dead) Rossi if the debacle continues thru 2012; image another 1 1/2yrs. of this soap-opra. Good theatre perhaps...good racing..not so much.

As long as the manufacturers are allowed to force the price of admission higher to promote their selfish ends, we'll see even less(?) qualified Abrahams & lappers.

Casey should focus on the championship and not get involved in all these sideshows.

Touchy?...he was asked his opinion...I think he has the right to express his, he's not exactly an un-interested 3rd party. The sideshow is only on this thread, I doubt the rest of the world is burdened with this "weighty" conundrum :P

It was an opinion he expressed after the question was put to him (I think a lot of rider's were asked and some of the answers are in a 2010 After The Flag episode - I can't remember which one). So the quotes I posted are over a year old.

I think he is totally focused on the championship, IMO the sideshows are a bigger distraction for the fans than the riders, they only talk about them when questioned, we (the fans) are still talking about things that happened years ago :)

On the judgement side, all of the riders have the right to judge on these sort of topics. It is their workplace and somebody comes in that seems to have got the job more on money & connections than merit; that has happened in my workplace and there was a lot of judgements tossed around, only difference is nobody was standing by the water cooler with a video camera and microphone.

this is the weirdest thing I've ever read on this site, or am I missing something :?:

everyone knows Yamaha pays Edwards bill at Tech3. why would they be hopeful he retires ? If they don't want him anymore, they just tell him to leave.
and if he want's to retire, they could be hopeful they can persuade him to stay on, or be sad he retires.
if it runs, you can race it !

That ended last year, or in 2009 IIRC. I remember reading that he took a jumbo pay cut.

But I agree. Yamaha/Tech 3 doesnt need to be hopefull. They just dont offer a contract, problem solved.

Yes, you are missing something!
(and as for it being the weirdest thing you've ever read here -- I think I'll accept that as a compliment!)

Hopefully Krop can elighten us but I think I'm correct in saying that Yamaha used to pay the bill!
I'm pretty sure that they don't any more!

Maybe the clip below will shed some light on my original comment!

But KA has not given any reason to be pointed at , so far on the track. I dion t think a rider is entitled to judge the way other riders got their job, unless that said rider is incompetent and therefore a danger to all surrounding him on track. Which is not the case.

ok, makes things clear :)

still wonder why they should be hopefull. Don't give him a contract any more ...
or are they hopefull he will accept the test-rider role ? or afraid he might go somewhere else ?

besides ; I thinck they forget something : I thinck Colin has learned Spies a lot, and is learning Cal a lot. if they drop him, I don't thinck Bradl will get the same support.

as for me : I'm hopefull Colin stays on for as many years as he enjoys it. from an entertainment point off vieuw, I thinck he is probably THE most important rider 8-)
if it runs, you can race it !

I think Yamaha is keenly interested in Colin retiring rather than choosing other non Yamaha career options. It'd be more convenient for them if his career came to an end, rather than say, go back to WSBK on Ducati's new superbike and win a few more titles.

sorry, it's in French but IF this is true ...

http://www.sport-bikes.fr/motogp---une-3e-equipe-yamaha-possible--avec-melandri-_a2632.html

basicly it says they got this news from Troy Corser. There might turn up a 3rd Yamaha-team in MotoGP, for Melandri. as to where the money would come from (which must be a big sponsor, you can't pay a new team with a little one) and why it shouldn't go to the factory team, they say it's a Sponsor brought in by Dorna and they'd use it to sponsor/setup a new team to fill the grids.

some thoughts :

IF this is true, it would be really stupid from Yamaha to "persuade" Edwards to leave. he can teach newcomers sooo much and with 2 more places available (one if Melandri would return), there would be no need to clear up space by ditching Colin

If it's true, that's 2 more bikes. another extra Duc in the Mapfre tream, and maybe 1 or 2 Norton's, that would be 22 bikes, and Dorna would like 24 bikes, leaving only 2 spots for CRT ? or will they allow 30 bikes ? IF it's true, is Dorna shooting itself in the foot with their CRT idea ???

now that must be a record-braking numbers off "IF"s in one post
if it runs, you can race it !

I wouldn't expect any Norton's on the grid................oiling the track maybe

Would be nice to see Marco back in MotoGP his talent is wasted a bit in WSBK
