I am scared of horses. Plus they're only 1 horsepower. Someday I'll put on my helmet and go to the Tennessee Walker horse farm down the road from me and get over my fear.

I tend to avoid the horses myself... they're nice and all that but I have zero interest in riding them. If I'm not the one in control then I'm not happy.

She's never not around long enough for me to build a track... but I think she may be warming to the idea - she did say to her friend (who's bloke rides MX) that I was thinking about building a track!

Nice bike.
I saw the first 'doing what she does best pic' and noticed your track positioning was almost exactly the same as pic2, but I was wondering why your body positioning was so different??
Then I saw the finger...
D'OH!
Welcome.

Yeah, it's hard to see with that line on my leathers. I'm used to being on the other side of the lens.

Thanks for the welcome & the compliments, guys!

And now away from performance and into something completely different. This 1988 model old cow has been my sole transport since 1996 although I bought my wife a car in 2002 and recently I've chosen my jobs to be within cycling distance. This has spent the last few years mostly watching garage walls also due to small daughter and various ongoing house projects. Every once in a while during the last 15 years I'd have liked a 'proper' bike, FZS600, Sprint RS, VFR, F 800, but in the end I don't think it matters how good a bike I've got sitting quietly in my garage. Next summer however I have slightly more time to ride, perhaps another trip above Arctic Circle and frequent 500km day rides.
It has now 119262 kms and there are some sensible mods like relayed headlight & grip heaters, aftermarket shock and Micron race can which is almost as quiet as OEM. Believe or not, it still has original clutch and top end.

After four years on the 749 I finally replaced it. Here is a shot of the 1198S from last week at Jerez. I'm still getting used to it, but by the third day it felt like I was in charge. ;) Someday I'll follow Jeremy's advice and do something about the "old man" riding position.

Well, it is a Honda after all...
;)

So there's quite a few bikes in my garage at home, with my Dad, Mum, brother and I all riding plus a couple of track bikes - lucky I know.

First up, my Suzuki Bandit 1250. This was my daily transport for a few years until I bitched out and bought a car. We've had some adventures and a serious accident but all is forgiven now.

The one in behind is my brother's, same bike, bit of a girly colour though.

Image
On our annual trip through the Snowy Mountains.

After doing a couple of track days at Eastern Creek, we went halves in a Suzuki SV650 to use as a track bike. It's a really great bike on the track with a few suspension upgrades and shows a wheel to many more powerful bikes. Great fun.

Image
My little bro, who looks a lot like Casey with his helmet off.

Finally, my Dad's Honda CB1300 track bike. I know, unusual choice, but after a crash on the road he couldn't fix it back to perfect and couldn't part with it, so this is how it ended up. It has serious grunt down low, but unfortunately the lack of ground clearance will prevent it from setting any EC lap records... Gets plenty of attention in the pits.

Thanks for looking :P

So, I bought myself a 2001 XR650R.

I've wanted one for a while for getting around the city. The Buell is a great bike but it is a lot of bike for city streets and it doesn't like sitting at stoplights as it is hard on the battery.

I'd originally planned to get an XR with 17" wheels and have a set of the 19"/21" for trips to the country. However, since I'm only working erratically, the budget was limited and this bike came with 19s front and rear so it is sort of a compromise.

She runs good and I know all of the previous owners and mechanics who've worked on this bike so it should be okay despite spending at least a year sitting outside a while back (a good friend did the restore on it so I know the ugly details).

Tracking down a headlight bulb now and plan to spend the weekend bombing around in the hills.

And here she is with the Buell

I still have the custom F3 from the first page of this topic and it is looking like I may have a chance to pick up a Honda CT90 for next to nothing that I can use for a 300 mile enduro next spring.

Awesome. That is a proper sumo. The XR is a bit of a pig and that thing would kill up on Pinehurst whereas I'd be working my buns off.

Edit:

Wait, is that a Lotus in the garage?!

Here is a Pinehurst run with the Husaberg from yesterday. Was cold but still fun. Still running the stock exhaust for now.

I enjoyed that, what a nice piece of road.
Out of interest what camera did you use?

I'm amazed you made it to the end TBH, you did the whole run on the wrong side of the road. :D

Pinehurst is a great road for a sumo. It is sandy and super tight so the Buell is a lot of work and not a lot of fun.

I just did a ride out in Marin on a road that is even tighter and covered in dust and pine needles. I was loving it but the sportbike guys were not having fun at all. Unfortunately, I was doing sweep so I wasn't able to really flog the XR.

Added: in that video, Pinehurst doesn't look nearly as tight as it is. On the Buell, it feels like I am getting slammed from one corner into the next, the XR makes it flow better.

Thanks for viewing. The film was made with a GroPro Hero2 at 1080p in 16:9. As far as riding on the wrong side of the road... well no self-respecting supermoto rider obeys traffic laws!

Thanks for the info. I'm currently eveluating HD cameras to film an around Australia tour I am planning. It seems that the GroPro and Contour HD Plus are the pick of the crop at the moment.

The GoPro is a better camera. The Contours have issues with wind noise. However, you can often find a good enough deal on a Contour to make the calculus a little more difficult.
