Well it was my birthday yesterday and as a surprise my father had restored my old BSA Bantam. I purchased this bike as a kid with my brother for $20 and did many miles on it around the local bush near our house. It also gave me many headaches as it was always breaking down at the furthest point from home. I actually learnt to ride on a Bantam as a 6 year old (some parts of that original bike are in this resto), I couldn't touch the ground and had to grab hold of a fence or something when stopping.

It´s insanely fun. I will post a racereport from the last weekends racing. Still got a smile on my face, but I feel that I suffer from Post Traumatic Race Disorder...

Well, I've been here a couple of months now and still haven't fully explored the forums. This post is now overdue - time to introduce my babies..

Shot of my rather untidy garage. I'm not quite that greedy, the two Suzuki GSXR750's at the back are mine, but the front-left R6 and front-right GSXR600 belong to friends and are just making a guest appearance today.
Image

Better shot of the blue GSXR750 - I bought this for Mr Pix about 8 years ago - it was old then! (1988 plate - still in mint condition)
Image

And finally, the beautiful and very agile GSXR400 - this is mine! :D

Parts came from several NSR50/80s.
Will be mounting a (fake) engine by end of the week, work on bodywork should start next week.
Hope to finish before the month is over.

Had thought of removing the subframe to fab my own but the rear shock is linked to it and doing that would be too much trouble.

The GSXR400 is a great bike to ride, especially when compared to the other 400s available then. I was mulling over one till I decided to get an NSR250 instead.

That pic makes the subframe look HUGE.

That is what I ran into when doing the work on my bike (the one on the first page). I just decided, to hell with it and cut the thing off anyway. I figured that since I was changing the weight distribution anyway, the precision of the shock mounting and it's geometry would be different so it wouldn't matter. Of course, I was also mountin the single-sided swingarm so I was already changing the shock linkage.

HENG! my dumb ass just noticed your signature. Awesome stuff. You have some skills I covet. Despite having a strong and very particular aesthetic, I could never really be a designed. At the same time, I lack the skills to be a fabricator. So, I end up somewhere int he middle: bolting the random pieces of other designs together.

I am beginning to realize that we have nearly all of the skills here on the forum to build some fantastic pieces of machinery. We have fabricators, at least one machinist, a designer, an engineer, a few mechanics of more than the garden variety.

Too bad you can't collaborate on a bike build on line.

I will, however, be in touch. There are some things I'd like to talk in more detail on.

Richo please tell your Father I'm available for adoption, any restorded RD would do to cover all these years of suffering the shame of biker-dis-interested parentage, or if he really feels bad about the neglect of not having my dad watch the races with me, a RG500 would help me overcome any trauma i may of sustained during these years of abuse. ;)

I have never really thought about how lucky I am I guess to have a parent who showed an interest in bikes. We were pretty lucky to live in the country and always have motorbikes to ride as kids (and places to ride). My father has been into bikes since he got one when he was about 18 (Triumph Thunderbird) and rode it to Queensland. He is 71 now, so thats a few years of experience. He still rides almost every day and has a pretty good collection of bikes, about 12 - 13 at last count.

Good on him....My dad is 69 and also rides every day! He is a farmer and scoots about the farm on a Suzuki TS 185......He has occasionally expressed interest in the KX 250 and the WR 250z I keep.....but as country folk we know that the availability of an ambulance is limited....So he sticks to the Suzuki.... ( Those Kawasakis and Yamahas are pretty pokey......!!! Anyone who has ever owned a Suzuki can testifty to the fact that they couldnt pull the cock of a chocolate mouse,so Dad's safe for the moment......   )

Since there seem to be quite a few tinkerers on board, anyone know how I should go about removing the needle? You can already see the crack from when I dropped it, it eventually broke off so I just pulled the remainder of the orange bits out but couldn't get the centrepiece off no matter how hard I tried. I'm afraid forcibly removing it will damage the internal mechanisms. I bought this from a bazaar for 100yen (~$1) and the speedo still works so I'm thinking of customising it and placing it on my other bike.
