Here's my latest installment...a 95 GSXR 750 which at the moment I'm planning on building from the ground up into an everyday ridable Streetfighter.
We'll see look out in the project thread!

That's pretty clean. Those gixxers are sort of the original streetfighters.

What is going on with that tailsection?

As I said before, I have plenty of aluminum sheet. I'd be happy to do a front fender or something. Ooh! Machined brackets supporting a shaped fender. Well, it's an idea.

I just found these pics on the net and it's exactly what I had in mind without being absolutly sure what i had in mind...I actually think you'll understand that ridiculous statement Rats! Thanks for the offer though...I'm going to live with it for a while. The subframe and tailsection is homemade by the previous owner.

That is pretty nice. The subframe is very cool though I am not really sure about that tailsection. From what I can see, the one on your bike currently is better looking.

That exhaust is very, very similar to what I am working on for the Buell.

Wow. What year is that. Over here those are called Super Hawks while the SP2 is called an RC51. When you said you had a VTR1000 motor I assumed it was from an RC51.

I wanted a Super Hawk for years. Right up until I got a chance to sit on one. I am not sure I have yet found a more uncomfortable riding position. At least for a 6 foot tall guy, it just didn't fit in any way.

It's the 97 model, the one with the awkwardly positioned clip-ons and small(er) range tank. I wanted to get the SP1/2 for the motor as well but those were going for double~triple what the hawk/storm costs. I still need to get materials for the frame build so I had to watch the budget.

Haven't had much of a chance to ride it yet, spent about an hour last night familiarising myself with it but not much to do on wet roads late at night. My previous owner must have been heavy because that rear shock is squishy! I ran over a slightly recessed manhole cover and it threw me off my seat. I won't actually begin frame making till July\August so I have a couple of months to play around with it. Been riding for almost 10 years but this is my first big bike so I'm honestly excited. Have borrowed and ridden friends' litre bikes for short distances (does singapore to somewhere in the middle of malaysia count as short? ) but this is actually my own! Woohoo!

First thoughts, doesn't handle as well as my CBR600RR
Front steering feels really light, may need a damper and I need to get used to that V-twin characteristic. Haven't had a chance to use 4th gear yet.

Position wise, I'm quite top heavy (because of 2 years in the military) and my back muscles aren't that strong so a leaned position is more comfortable for me than the upright position of the Hornet 250 that I traded it in for.

Well, since you are ripping the motor out of it, you will be able to avoid some of the wierdnesses that make up the Super Hawk - the riding position that isn't comfortable over long distances but is awkward around tonw and through the hills, the tank with a 110 max mile range, etc - and will be left of what makes the bike appealing. V-Twins are just a blast and that one will provide plenty of what you need. It does take some getting used to if you have been riding I4 600s for any length of time (As I had before the Buell). Use that torque! That is the fun stuff.

What is that bike next to yours with the green tank? It looks like my perfect comuter bike, please tell me it's a new single cylinder 500cc that honda/yamaha decided to make as an affordable bike....

It would appear to be an Estrella 250.

Rusty, for 1988 that was a damn nice bike. That was just about the time the the new wave of superbikes was about to hit the US. It looks as though you put some miles on it.

Nice red boots BTW.

Looks great IMO. They sold a few of them in Germany, but they're not exactly cheap.

So unfair, you guys have all the cool bikes in Japan....I'm looking at a grey import Yamaha TW200 now, it's the only one i've seen for sale here and i've been searching for a year. It doesn't run and is missing a lot of parts, but I wanted one forever. With an extended swingarm and a new tank and seat it would look pretty good..

The bike was 4 years old when I bought it in '88. I bought it from a friend who had taken pretty good care of it. I didn't have a car the first two years I had the bike (but, the future ex-wife had a car, so it was all good... ;) ) so I did ride it a lot. Thankfully, there are no pictures of my trumpet case being held on the back seat with a bungee net! To this day, I still love that bike (which is why I'll never let it go), but I want to rebuild it with a tank bigger than 2 gallons.

The later picture, I'm pretty sure, was taken in June 1991, as I was heading off to the CA Superbike School in Watkins Glen. I don't recall too many other full-on pack-mule days that year. In the interim, I'd had to get new forks, thanks to a guy blowing a STOP sign on my own street. Around that time, Superbrace finally came out with one for my bike, so I jumped on it.

The boots were bought with the suit from a guy who sold them as a set. Pure coincidence I already had the perfect matching gloves...

Aaaarg! I'll have to gamble on getting this one running. But it's pretty cheap, so I'll give it a shot. It could be the only one I ever find.

Another problem is finding parts for it here. I will need a lot off electrical stuff like cdi and stator, and maybe a new loom. Impossible to find here, so importing them from USA or Japan is my only option.

I want a new bike. My blade is starting to feel a tad tired at 40k miles and I quite fancy something new.

What do you guys think? My budget is around about 2k so nothing tooo new (although if I land the new job I'm after it'll be a 3k budget :D) and that's in GBP.

I was thinking either:

Newer blade (929, 954)
RSV Mille (99-03 model)
ZX636 (03-04 model)

Basically, I want something around the same speed that turns better, stops better and gets better drive out of corners. I'm on the limit of the current bike (98 blade). The ZX is in there because I also love supersport bikes, they rev to infinity and are soooo turnable, you can ride them with lots of corner speed (which is how I prefer to ride, trail the brake to the exit and carry tons of corner speed).

Any ideas?

Thanks! Conrad
