2011 R7 Assen Race Topic ** Spoilers**

Discussion and debate about the MotoGP class

Some interesting thoughts above, and I agree with pretty much all of it. From what I can tell (or guess), I think the biggest problem (and David suggested this on the front page) is the colder weather and lack of left hand corners. Stoner mentioned in the post QP interview that he had no confidence in the left hand corners as the tyres just weren't up to temp on the left side. I suspect that this problem is not Stoners alone and most of the riders had the same issues. Lorenzo being a second of hist qp time from last year is pretty significant. The track temp was 15deg cooler this year than last year. Maybe Simoncelli being larger has helped him in this case, by being able to get those tyres warmer with his extra weight ;)

Very dissapointed for Rossi, I hope that they can turn this around. Impressed with Abraham though, he just continues to prove that the Ducati isn't completely useless.

How much is a podium worth to Spies compared to SuperSic?
That's me in the picture.

I don’t know, but the bumping/intimidation bit won’t work on Spies. “Bring it!” He certainly won’t bitch to the media about bumpin’.

And F’ the podium, this is about the first win - the first “kill”.

“How much is it worth.” ? Interesting. You mean like hungry wolves fighting over dead elk meat for survival – who’s more “needing”? We’re about to find out!

do you mean personally, to the team or at the bookie?

I would have said it may be harder for Spies because of the Yamaha so the podium is worth more. Sic just needs to not have a brain fade, I'm getting a tad concerned that he may not be able to do that though.

For their own personal confidence I think it would be worth far far more to Sic because of his catastrophic toss aways, Spies is analytical, knows he f'ks up and gets over it and doesn't panic about it.

Could be a very very interesting race if they stay together. However, for running the whole race without cocking up I wouldn't go past Stoner or Lorenzo if they can find the extra tenth or so.

If the track is substantially warmer than yesterday I can see both Stoner & Lorenzo making some time up pretty quickly.

Hmmm... I just googled "11.1.46" and got a very telling result. From the bible of all places. Turns out it's not a software code, it's a bible reference.

Gospel of St John, 11.1-46. It's about Lazarus. Coincidence? Here are a few passages:

After saying this, he told them, ‘Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him.’ The disciples said to him, ‘Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be all right.’ Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was referring merely to sleep.
This is a clear reference to Rossi's underestimation of the Ducati's problems.

To prove his ability to the unbelievers, he goes to a place of death and orders that the Stoner be taken away.

The crucial passage No. 46 reads 'but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done'. This is what people used to do before we invented bitching on the internets. And as we now know, the Pharisee has already ruled that his actions were 'completely legal and within the bounds of the rules'.

OK, so in the bible it all took about 80 seconds, but the point is Lazarus walked. The Doctor did his healing act and all was right in the world. Just gotta have a little faith...

You really don't have to try hard to make any religious twaddle refer to anything you like.

Edit - I actually came on here to ask a question but totally forgot.

Q: What's the weather doing now and what's the forecast for the race?

In the end the Stoner won. I now humbly await the prophecy to be fulfilled.

On topic though, here's hoping for the sun to be shining high in a few hours.

And yea, I have faith..

Brilliant. That's the sort of thing that makes mtm special - people bring their knowledge of the world and apply it intelligently and wittily. Great stuff..

I was hoping I wouldn't have to qualify my comment on this of all forums, but let it be known that I'm an agnostic and it looks just as much like religious twaddle to me as to anyone else. Just having a bit of fun by playing with what my google seive dredged up. I should have known that touching on such a sacred issue might not be seen in a positive light. Bringing God into it just made things worse :D

Part of the problem is your nickname - what with the post it could imply a religeous zealot; until you read where you are based that is :)

In which case - I like your style. Just don't do it too often and by 'often' I mean 'again'. :D

Point taken. I hadn't even thought of that. It goes back to my first ever nickname in forums, in about 1993 or 1994 - the Corinthian was a character from Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels. Doesn't mean I'm a religious zealot, or a serial killer that's escaped from a dream... just a creature of habit. I've just kept using it ever since, whatever the forum is about, so that I don't have a whole bunch of different nicknames.

Sorry to all for leading this thread off on a tangent. Game on in 25 mins, hope you all enjoy the race!

Really ugly race, destroyed in every way by Simoncelli's move. Gutted for Crutchlow, he didn't deserve that.

How many stupid things has he done now? I have lost count. A shame for Lorenzo, the championship and for all fans as he robbed us of a great race.

Very happy for SPies though as he has looked great this week end.
