MotoGPMatters.com Calendar - Would You Buy One?

Postby Kropotkin on Wed Oct 01, 2008 11:01 pm

A question for all of you. At the moment, we (Scott Jones and I) are looking at producing a MotoGPMatters.com calendar, using his photos and a few words from me. The calendars would include the MotoGP and World Superbike calendars, as well as rider birthdays, that sort of thing.

What I'm interested in knowing is how many people would be interested in buying such a calendar. The reason I ask is because we want to do this properly. The places where you can have calendars produced online tend to be a bit iffy in terms of quality, and I would want Scott's photos to be done justice. This means we would have the calendars printed properly (using an offset printing process), so they would look right. We'd be looking to sell the calendars at somewhere between the $15-20 mark (that's USD, not AUS), plus shipping. But we'd need to know there was sufficient interest before undertaking this project, as it could turn into a nasty loss maker if only 20 or 30 people by the calendars.

So, would you be likely to buy one?
This is not a call for orders, just a bit of market research, so if you could vote as honestly as possible, that would be a big help.

Thanks!

Well, with one vote in the results are 100% positive

I would definitely. Scott's work is fantastic and anything I can do to support your work is well worth it.

BTW, I noticed your Amazon store doesn't have a link on the site that I could find. I did find it through Google.

It does, it's on the right hand side on the front page. But perhaps it's not directly obvious. A major reorganization is one of the projects I'll have to for the winter, including moving the site to another hosting company, to speed the site up.

Well, it might be obvious if you are not an idiot.

Now that I am looking at it, it looks gigantic.

Naturally, you can count me in for a couple. I may ask to pick the month of October, though... ;)

i'd pay a bit extra for a decent size, 1 page per month(you know, month below pic above) and a ring binder...
(i write the results down and have to flick through the months to remind myself which leads to pages falling off!)

I'd be interested if you could send it for a normal price because postage cost to my country have a tendency to go sky high!

Here's the specs we were given:

Desc 12 page + cover booklet
Size 11x17 flat, 8.5x11 finished
Stock 80 lb. gloss cover + 80 lb. gloss text
Ink 4-color process 2/sides
Bindery Collate, fold, saddle-stitch, trim, drill hole, bulk carton
Art Disc to plate
Proof Hi res Epson digital color

So it's basically the Letter paper size (very close to A4, for Europeans) when folded closed. It would be folded and stapled (if I understand correctly) and printed on the kind of stiff paper you'd expect from a calendar.

No, I actually really like Slovenia. I have only been there once but had a truly geat time.

Back on topic: I was concerned about the calendar not being sprial bound but upon further consideration, it might be a very good thing considering how the postal service seems to treat anything shipped from far off exotic locations like Holland.

youre probably right rats, but as mentioned before i like to tarnish my usual gibberish with the occasional fact so i always write the top 3 down and championship positions as a refrence, but hay we can live with staples!!

Well, the good thing is, this is going to happen. Calendars will be ready 3-4 weeks from now, and orders will be taken in a week or so - once I've sorted a webshop application for the website...

Stand by for more news as and when we get it.

We're going over the proofs right now, and they look fantastic (though I say so myself). The only thing I am worried about for our Antipodean fans are the postal charges. Postage will take place from the USA, and I have no idea what shipping will cost. I only hope it won't be too much.

Plain Airmail takes about a week and is not too expensive, depending on size/shape.
Things to avoid are priority espresso etc which costs more for tracking but still takes about 5 days.

Is it rolled up or flat?

Don't know, haven't seen it yet! But I believe it will be flat. Weight will be in the region of 5 ounces, or 150 grams.
