MotoGP Prediction Contest and Its Future

Postby RatsMC on Wed Mar 07, 2012 4:43 am

It’s getting close to that time again – time to start thinking up your wild prediction for events in the MotoGP world.

We are going into our third year at this and I like to think we are still having fun. While the rest of the MotoTheory site suffers from a lack of creative skill and attention of its owner, the Prediction Contest still receives a fair amount of attention.

However, the real world is doing its best to interfere. I have been working only part time doing consulting which has kept food on my table but hasn’t left much for non-essential. As I have been prepping the site for this season, I’ve had to question whether I could fund it for much longer. The annoying ads on the side have raise a grand total of about $24 in three year which doesn’t come close to the $200 or so I need to raise to renew the hosting agreement as well as the various licenses needed.

So, I come to you guys to see if this is something you want to support. This means asking for donations. I’ve added a “Help Keep Us Running” box at the top of the page. If you’d like to support the site simply click on the PayPal icon. Any amount is helpful so don’t feel you need to make a serious investment.

If you are able to help out, just go here: http://www.mototheory.com/home and look in the left top corner.

I do want to make sure everyone knows that I truly appreciate the kind words and enthusiasm for my effort over the past few years. I hope to continue to offer something a little different and fun.

Thanks.

Oh, alternately, even just clicking on the ads is helpful if donating isn't possible.

As always, thanks for running the contest = it definitely helps during the snoozer races.

I was going to donate a few dollars but mototheory.com shows just a filler site.

Looks like the domain expires today:

Same - just had a look and got what MPA did.

Rats your effort is definitely appreciated but you shouldn't be out of pocket. If it is to continue I will certainly contribute. If you got considerably more $ than expected it might be a way to fund an end of season prize. I'm not against the idea of a entry fee to cover the site costs and if it was a big enough pool ..... prizes.

Crap. They tried to process the payment on the wrong card. Working to sort it out now. This makes perfect sense as I also spent the entire day at the city planning office because the city has my riding clubs clubhouse zoned incorrectly.

Well, it is going to take until tomorrow to get this sorted out.

However, if you are feeling still feeling generous, my PayPal account is my email which is josborne.jr at gmail dot com.

I can't tell you how much your donations mean to me. I think growing up as a rancher makes it hard to ask for help and I think that makes my gratitude so much greater.

As my PayPal account was empty I clicke sponsorlinks like crazy yesterday. Will happily donate a 5dollar entry fee for this year.

Believe it or not, those clicks were worth about $5. Much appreciated.

I straightened out the payment issue and the site is back up. My apologies.

I seriously can't thank you guy enough. I'm nearly halfway to what I need keep everything up and running.

And only another 150 ad clicks and I'll be there  Though, knowing Google and their super-secret formulas, god only knows if that will actually work.

I've been busy getting everything ready. I'm hoping I can make some of the interfaces a lot easier to manage.

I've just been to the site to do a few clicks for you - but I can't find any adverts to click

I never take part in the prediction stuff - but I really want to see it survive so I want to help too. I enjoy reading it. If I can't find any clicking points later I'll stick $5 or so through on paypal for you anyway.

Very much appreciated.

The donations so far have nearly covered all of the operating costs for the site so I owe you all a huge thank you.

For all of you that contributed, I am working on something special to show my appreciation.

If you've made a donation, can I ask you to PM me your email address or name so I know who is who?

I'm busy working away, getting the contest set up and ready to go. Working on some bonus rounds as well.

Once I have that in order, the generosity of the people here has inspired me to actually continue improving the site. I've realized that while there is some interesting stuff on the site, it is mostly just a curiosity and the real questions that people have when they are debating a topic aren't readily available. I've thought of some ways to fix that and hope to have them up soon.

Yes you really need to rank the riders first to last in a GOAT list and make that easily accessible. So much time could be saved if you had a simple feature like that. :lol

I'd like to point out that the ads have earned more in the past week than they have in the past 3 years

It's possible that Google will flag this up and cancel some of those clicks as fraudulent. So click judiciously, a few times spread over the course of the day is the advice.
