Another big question is how can he be so confident in the wet, yet not in the dry? 2nd place to 13th place...

We can question determination, willingness, skill, but it doesn't explain why he was pretty much on it and looking pretty comfortable for the whole of the wet Free Practice session... yet the track dries out and he's doddering about like an arthritic old badger.

Because most of the fast riders didn't do much serious running in the wet did they? I don't really think that 2nd would be repeated if the race is wet.

It wasn't totally dry though, there were a few wet patches left, and after rain grip levels are very low until the track rubbers up again.

"The excitement was helped along by the weather, with the track drying fast throughout the session, with a few remaining wet patches adding to the tension. There were two such patches at Turn 1 which caught several riders out...."

Just my tuppence worth :P

If he comes away with a 3rd he will be happy

Casey said that he probably "had another half second in him, BUT that was still not enough to catch JL and DP and that he needed to find another half second"

It would be my guess that the journo's would of been asking CS his view on VR and the Duke.

Looking at FP3 when it started to rain fairly consistantly towards the end of the session, the fastest guys were NH,DP,CS,JL and CC.

It should be an interesting race either wet or dry.

When was that? It is a bit interesting that he is so reluctant to say what they have done with regards to his arm pump issue...

Stoner no laps in WUP.
Arm pump issues? Looked like he was stretching out the leathers right after he sat down and got his gloves off.

Official explanation was to save a set of tires. For what I may ask?

It sure is interesting that does his own thing and makes unorthodox choices every now and then. Makes it really hard to gauge where he is at.

Wet weather tire wear was a huge issue last year. Remember all the late crashes and shredded tires? Lorenzo has also commented on the same potential problem this weekend, so saving tires is a reasonable explanation.

I am not saying they are lying but no other riders felt a need to save tires and the HRC media machine is working over time to say there are no issues with his arms. Good thing is that we will know for sure later this after noon. :)

It could well be that we see them change bikes several times today in the race. Or it could even be that we see people do a regular pitstop with mechanics changing tires... So conserving tires might indeed become a clever choice.

Understood, but just because other riders didn't feel the need to save tires doesn't mean they are right. And Stoner is not a conventional rider. Stoner has been a bit off the pace this weekend for some reason, very unusual for him given his test pace on this track a few weeks ago, and it might make sense to do something different. As you say, we shall see soon enough.

I think it could be his arms
Arm pump is not something you get rid of buy riding more
he might be feeling tight so the less laps the better come race time

Were they actually out on wet tires? I thought they were on slicks, but the track was still drying...

I have had arm pump and it was very hard to get rid of and for me it actually was when I started riding more regular that it disappeared. During one week end when it was very severe I tried to conserve teh arms, massage, eat right, rest etc. but it came back instantly within five laps when the race started. Luckily for Casey he ain´t as crap as me.

Randy de Puniet was clearly out on wets and Crutchlow was out on wets from yesterday according to his twitter.

What a debacle in moto3! A bloody one-legged roller skater at the Somme would have had a better chance of staying on his wheels.. Fenati was on another planet... and the marshalls displayed their fearless impartiality once again...

Yeah that was weird. I suppose you mean their help for Rins? Although one could argue, that the Cortese group was about 20 seconds back by that time, so there wasn't really any danger to help him. I'd like to hear what Oliviera thinks about that though.

Fantastic performance by Fenati. This youngster is seriously gifted. He hasn't raced at Qatar or Jerez very often in his younger life, has he? Simply amazing if you ask me.
