Just wanted to clarify that bit... "Progressively" often meant "drop off a cliff", it was all a matter of conditions, and whatever they mixed into that batch of rubber. Usually though, by the last lap we were all over the place. For the most part, everyone was so it was standard operating procedure.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I think tire degradation is and should be a part of the sport. Having everyone on perfect grip until the checkered flag can make for some very boring racing.
