Can Bayliss be caught??

Postby brady_m on Wed May 21, 2008 11:28 pm

As the points stand Bayliss look hard to beat. The only thought i have is that since WSBK races doubles on weekends if anything were to happen to Bayliss or his bike someone might have a chance. But at this point its doubtful in my mind.
Current Standings top 5
Troy Bayliss194
Carlos Checa 116
Nori Haga--116
Max Neukirchner--112
Fonsi Nieto--107

In a word NO :D

Think the gap will only get bigger to be honest. I ain't that knowledgeable, but it looks to me that the best rider and best bike are together, so that will be hard to catch.

At the start of the season, I was really hoping that Haga would take it. I think he probably would be very close to Bayliss if he hadn't had several miserable races in the early season.

At this point, I think that Bayliss is going to be hard to catch not because he outclasses the other top riders but rather the contenders are all so closely matched that no single rider will dominate enough to make up the gap. If everyone keeps swapping wins, Bayliss' lead will keep him ahead even if he isn't finishing on the podium.

Bayliss is having one of his indestructible years. He is almost unbeatable on the 1098, and has completely gelled with the machine. But he has also been helped by his rivals taking themselves and each other out. I think he probably is unbeatable, but if Checa or Biaggi punts him off into the gravel and breaks his collarbone, then it could all open up again.

Remember, it's only May! A long way to go yet.

Since it is possible - and somewhat likely, especially if he tests the MotoGP bike - that he could take himself out of the picture (and maybe even remove another body part), I would also say it's a bit too early to bestow the title. It's not the same as if Rossi had that kind of lead already. However, it sure seems like he could do what Stoner did last year.

Bayliss has a serious amount of motivation to go out on top. He is on a great bike has enormous talent and most of all can manage a championship season perfectly. This is what all the other contenders lack - the ability to manage a season to win a championship.

Max Neukirchner is extremely impressive and I look forward to him challenging the lead throughout the season.

can he be caught? yeah, i think so... will he? nope. I think he is riding very maturely, gathering valuable points each round. i personally think he could have won last year, if he hadn't crashed out while leading several times, including once when he lost the finger...

as a ducati fan, i don't think that the 1098 is a lot better than the other bikes... but i think bayliss is a lot better than the other riders. i'm excited to see them go around miller this weekend!

Agreed, but if I remember correctly, Colin won every race from Laguna through the end of the season that year. An incredible feat. In fact, it was that race when he grabbed the red flag from the cornerworkers during qualifying and stopping the session. That cost him a few bucks and It was quite an entertaining press conference afterward.

While possible, I doubt if anyone will catch Troy. He's one of the most consistent riders and he seems to finish rather then bin it.

I love Bayliss... I love that he started racing so late in life, I love that he joined MotoGP for one race in 2006 and won it, and I love his riding style. He could have my babies.

Well, it appears that Bayliss can be caught. Two DNF's and a really strong Checa was all it took to make this an actual challenge.

Overall, the races were pretty boring with the exception of Haga's remarkable go at the front with a broken collarbone and Fabrizio's charge from 11th to 3rd.

It made me really miss Supersport.

It proves that anybody can be caught. All it takes is a bit of bad luck, and you're starting all over again.

it's looking so nice with the top four are 55 points apart, if haga can put a late season rally, it will be a great season to break his string of seconds places ;)

i think this is the greatest all around years for mc racing :!: :!: :!:
