Is there any closer racing than Supersport at the moment?

This is the first time I've seen coverage of the World Supersports series.The last two round at Assen and Le Mans have been edge of the seat watching, I haven't seen such close racing with such a big field in any class. It's fantastic watching, pure b*lls out racing all the way through the field - if you haven't seen it make sure you check out the next round.

Also does anyone know are the Triumph 675's actually 675cc motors or do the manufacturers have to reduce capacity to 600cc

WSS is some great racing. that assen race might be the best race i've seen in a few years!!

as for the triumphs, since they are triples, they are allowed more cc's. kinda like the big twins in WSBK... the ducati 749 was allowed in WSS in the past. it too, wasn't very competitive... although i remember one race where Gianluca Nanneli rode a 749 to 3rd place. great race, that thing was trying to buck him off at every corner...

Assen was absolutely nuts. I record all MotoGP races to DVD but never any other series - except that one race. Definitely one of the best I have ever seen. A 3 second split between first and 10th has to be considered a close race.

And, on the subject of 749's, didn't Nanelli win the Supersport race at Imola in the rain a few years ago? The 749's only win IIRC.

He did take his only win on a 749 in '05. But he was riding well that year. He got called up to WSBK when someone was injured and, I believe, ran in both classes. I was thinking about that today when reading the Yamaha preview of this weekends race at Miller. Back then, Monza '05, he rode both SS and WSBK classes. I was thinking that it would have been an advantage to have more track time. He got on the podium that weekend (in SS) and had only one other podium that year besides the win in the wet. Overall, it was his best dry weekend of the season in terms of qualifying and the race. I think the extra track time helped. What made me think of it was that it could be interesting if a rider were to participate in the Super Sport class when going to new tracks to give them an advantage to learn the layout. Then I remembered that SS isn't coming to the US this weekend, but the possibility is interesting. It would be a lot of work on race day and likely pose some confusing set up issues (or maybe help setting up both bikes as a contrast), but I'd like to see a double champion again like Freddy Spencer.

Hi All,

Thanks for answering the question on capacity - so a 675 triple, or a 750 twin can run in the 600 class? I'd imagine the extra torque would give them a huge advantage over a 600 four. I guess there are some weight penalties that go with the extra capacity?

Also thanks for not point out my stuff up on the recent races, it was Assen and Monza, not Le Mans. Zero "cred points" for me!

And now I see one post tells me that the WSS bikes won't be at Salt Lake city, that's going to spoil my fun - which is the next round they do take part in, and how long do I have to wait?

Yeah, thanks Phoenix.

Just FYI, those of us in the US don't usually get all the races on the day they occur. We won't get SuperSport until Tuesday but now we don't need to watch it because we know the result.

Have to agree fellas - WSS is the place to be for non stop action. I'd like to see our GB boys get promoted to MotoGP from this class direct.

With the power delivery and style of the 600's I'd have thought that it's the second best training ground for MotoGP after 250's. Corner speed and all balls out racing. Team mates - I don't think they believe in such things. What a race.
Still while we've got these animals I'm going to enjoy every race. Bring on the next round!!!

sofuoglu, might have done better to go across then up

I have been disappointed by Sofuoglu's performance this year (prior to the death of his brother). I am mostly surprised as he was so dominant in WSS, he should be capable of placing better in WSB. Take a look at this season in WSS where there is anywhere from 4 to 11 riders in place to take the win. Last year was nothing like that. At least part of this has to be that Sofuoglu was simply the best out there which should translate into something better than 18th at the WSB level.

Still and the same, the races this year have been unbelievable.
