Updated Moto2 List - 40 Entries So Far

With the announcement that Toni Elias and Vladimir Ivanov have signed for the Gresini Moriwaki Moto2 team, as well as updates on the Campetella and CIP Technomag team, we are edging closer to what passes for a definitive Moto2 entry list. The biggest surprise is the size of the list: After the initial announcement at Valencia that only 37 entries would be accepted for the 2010 Moto2 class, the total already stands at 40. No doubt the process of raising the necessary funds to actually go racing will whittle that list back to a more manageable size. As one paddock insider put it to us, "when Moto2 was first announced, everybody jumped in. Now they need to actually raise the money, they're starting to pull back..."

Confusion

The confusion was down to not proofreading carefully enough. Despite the fact that I got Vladimir Ivanov's name right in the introduction, as well as in the story about Toni Elias and Gresini, I idiotically changed it to Leonov in the list. It's fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out!

Numbers

With the extra Campetella and CIP machines, I actually count 43 bikes there (although there are two rides with no rider in that)...

Just wondering...

... if moving down to Moto2 is going to be more common occurance now after a rider doesn't succeed at the MotoGP level then it was to move back down during the 250 era. And perhaps moving back up (second chance) will happen too?

My memory isn't great, but off the top of my head I can't think of any 500/MotoGP guys that went back down to 250's...

Capirossi

I beleive Capirossi moved back down to 250's after some time in 500's, punted Harada off to win a championship, lost to Rossi, then moved back up.

Debon

Alex Debon is riding for Motorsport 69 not Ajo racing. Ajo has yet to announce their Moto2 team. They have confirmed Marquez and Cortese for 125cc.

Thanks for the correction

Thanks very much for that! I'll put up a revised list in a couple of days, as I'm also working on a 125cc list.

Money

Ant West tested with MZ at Valencia (though in reality, it was just West's Stiggy Honda Supersport bike), and were going to build their own chassis. However, that required money, and the team have not been able to find any. So West is out of a job right at the minute.

West has always had a tough

West has always had a tough time finding sponsors. You'd have thought all that time he spent with John Hopkins might have rubbed off! Find a energy drink and make buddys in the marketing dept.

I'm sure it sounds easier said then done, but really your job as a racer is to do their job in product promotion...... Unless of course you have the talent of Casey Stoner.
