2012 Jerez Moto3 Qualifying Practice Result: Drying Track Creates Thrilling Pole Battle

Results and summary of qualifying for the Moto3 class at Jerez:

Alex Rins has secured his maiden Moto3 pole at Jerez, after a drying track saw a thrilling final few minutes of qualifying, with pole swapping hands several times. The Spanish rookie timed his final run to perfection, in the final seconds of the session on a track that was almost completely dry.

The battle for pole raged to the very end of the session. Australian rookie Jack Miller led for much of the session, the Caretta rider strong both in the wet conditions at the beginning, and continuing to lead as the track dried. But Miller could not hold on to his position in the final five minutes of qualifying, once the pace took another step up. Sandro Cortese ended up with the 2nd fastest time, falling just twelve thousandths short of Rins' pole time, with Rins' Estrella Galicia teammate Miguel Oliveira taking the final spot on the front row in 3rd. Miller ended qualifying at the front of the second row with the 4th fastest time, with MZ's Toni Finsterbusch in 5th, and Miller's Caretta teammate Alexis Masbou in 6th.
