2012 Indianapolis Moto2 Race Result: One Man Dominates Race To Take Comfortable Win
Results and summary of the Moto2 race at Indianapolis:
Marc Marquez has taken a dominant victory at Indianapolis, winning with ease after controlling the race from very early on. With Pol Espargaro taking 2nd, Marquez has extended his lead in the championship to 39 points.
Marquez' race did not start quite so promisingly. Andrea Iannone took the holeshot, Pol Espargaro following in his wake, while Technomag's Dominique Aegerter charged the leaders down. Aegerter was on a roll, quickly barging his way to the front past Espargaro and Iannone. While Aegerter led from the front, Marquez was making his way forward, working past Iannone and Espargaro, before getting onto the back of Aegerter.
The decisive moment came on lap 4, when Marquez took Aegerter into Turn 1. The move was perfectly timed, as Espargaro was struggling behind fending off Julian Simon. Once past Aegerter, Marquez put the hammer down, quickly opening a gap to the following group. The Spaniard set a pace that no one could follow, going on to win the race by a very comfortable margin.
Marquez' pace was strong, but his timing was impeccable. Marquez took the lead right at the point that Pol Espargaro was caught up battling with other riders, and though the HP Tuenti rider eventually shook off Aegerter, Julian Simon and Andrea Iannone, by the time he opened the chase for Marquez, he already had a gap of several seconds. With Marquez running the pace he was, Espargaro stood no chance of ever catching him, Espargaro never finding the speed he had during practice and qualifying. The Spaniard came home in 2nd, easily holding off Julian Simon.
With this win, Marquez consolidates his lead in the championship to a very comfortable 39 points. With 7 races to go, Espargaro will need some help if he is to prevent Marquez from taking the 2012 crown.
