2012 Brno Post-Race MotoGP Test Times At 1pm: Dovizioso Fastest As Rea Makes His Debut
It's been a busy morning of testing so far at Brno, with plenty of action going on on track. Times are a little slower than yesterday's race times, despite the track conditions being slightly better, though the wind has picked up. Various bike swaps are going on, and several riders are being given tryouts, as well as MotoGP safety officer Loris Capirossi taking most of the bikes out for a spin to get a feel for the way the tires respond on the various bikes.
Andrea Dovizioso is the fastest man of the session so far, the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha man already quicker than he was during the race yesterday. Dovizioso's focus at the test was to be improving his corner speed, he said after yesterday's race, and his times suggest he has succeeded. Dani Pedrosa is testing parts on his current Honda, with a new bike due to be tested at Aragon next week. Jorge Lorenzo is testing both the 2012 bike and a completely new 2013 M1 to be used for next season. Both Pedrosa and Lorenzo are several tenths slower than yesterday.
Ten Kate Honda World Superbike rider Jonathan Rea has been out testing Casey Stoner's Honda RC213V, slowly building pace as the test progresses. Rea is still well off the pace of the prototype riders, but is slashing a second or more off his best lap time each time he goes out. After two race crashes at yesterday's WSBK round in Moscow, he is probably being a little more cautious than usual.
The biggest shakeup is among the CRTs. Colin Edwards is riding Mattia Pasini's bike, in preparation for the team receiving a pair of Aprilia ART machines of their own at Misano. Those machines will not be the bikes of Pasini, though the Italian's Speed Master team is rumored to be withdrawing due to a lack of cash either before or after Misano. Hopefully, after Misano, as that is truly Pasini's home race, the Italian living just a few miles away from the track. Suter's BMW is rumored to be going to Danilo Petrucci's IODA Racing team. With Petrucci complaining of a lack of power, the Italian is set to go from one extreme to another, the BMW being the most powerful of the CRT bikes. But the Suter's problem is not horsepower, but the electronics, something which Edwards has been complaining of since day one on the bike.
There is a lot of activity in the BQR garage, with both Julian Simon and Mike di Meglio testing the FTR Kawasaki with a view to possibly replacing Ivan Silva on the machine. Simon's test has so far not gone entirely to plan: the Spaniard flung Yonny Hernandez' machine into the gravel shortly before the test broke for lunch, destroying the fairing and damaging the machine heavily. Simon got up and walked away, but was clearly shaken up by the crash.
Testing resumes at 2pm.
