2012 Sepang Moto2 Qualifying Practice Result: Pole Secured Early

Results and summary of qualifying for the Moto2 class at Sepang:

Pol Espargaro has taken his sixth pole of the season, after taking control of qualifying at the halfway mark and never looking back. Espargaro took over pole with 22 minutes to go in the session, and then went on to improve his time at the end, while no one else seemed capable of improving theirs. Espargaro took over at the front from Scott Redding, the Marc VDS Racing rider having been fast all day on Saturday, though he was unable to match the pace of Espargaro in the end. Redding will start from 2nd on the grid, ahead of Marc Marquez, the championship leader still managing to qualify on the front row of the grid.

Competition for that final spot on the front row was very tough indeed: Takaaki Nakagami heads up the second row, just five hundredths behind Marquez, while Johann Zarco is the same distance behind Nakagami, and Bradley Smith the same again behind Zarco. In fact, where the difference between Espargaro and Marquez is six tenths of a second, just half of that separates Marquez in 3rd from Dominique Aegerter in 10th spot.
