2014 Misano World Supersport Qualifying Results

Qualifying was, like the Superbikes, done under a 30º sun.

Being on a Honda was a definite advantage for qualifying, but Jules Cluzel was determined and quick enough to get the MV Agusta, now run by the factory instead of Yakhnich, onto pole position. If the crowd couldn't have an Italian rider on pole, they'd settle for an Italian bike. Michael van der Mark took second place from Raffaele De Rosa, knocking Kenan Sofuoglu off the front row in the process. The remaining secontd row places were filled by the Hondas of Film Wilairot and Lorenzo Zanetti. Cluzel's lap was almost half a second quicker than anyone else, but he was still unable to match Michele Pirro's 2010 qualifying lap.

Wilairot

Has Ratthapark Wilairot changed his name to Film or is it a nickname that I haven't heard about..?

Film

Film is his informal name, his chue len, and it is what his press releases refer to him as. Thailand has a long tradition of using nicknames in place of birth names, and most Thai names you will hear are their chue len (lit. play name) instead of the name on their passport. To make matters more confusing, Thais can change their names and didn't have to use family names until the 20th century, but that's another story.

For more on Thai nicknames, read http://www.thailandbreeze.com/thai-nicknames.html or google "chue len" for even more on the subject.

Thanks

Thanks Jared, never knew this in all these years that he has been racing GP's and SBK. Again I've learned something here at Motomatters :-)
