2014 Indianapolis Moto2 Race Result: The Gap Narrows

Results Below:

Mika Kallio won a shortened Moto2 race after a red flag forced a restart at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. Maverick Vinales held on for second and Dominique Aegerter took third, 1.6 seconds behind the leader.

Tito Rabat finished fourth after runnng wide with four laps remaining which allowed both Vinales and Aegerter through. Kallio's win coupled with Rabat's finish reduced Rabat's championship lead to seven points over his Marc VDS teammate.

Simone Corsi took a lonely fifth, more than six second behind the winner. Another 12 seconds back, Sandro Cortese (6th), Hafizh Syahrin (7th) and Alex de Angelis (8th) crossed the line in a tight cluster. Ant West, winner in Assen, managaed a surprising ninth after getting caught up in the inital crash that led to the red flag and restart. Johann Zarco held on for tenth.

Kallio jumped out to an early lead at the race's initial start, holding a 1.2 second lead by the third lap. But on lap four at Turn 10, Azlan Shah, West, Mattia Pasini and Randy Krummenacher collided.

The crash left Pasini unconscious and the race was red flagged immediately. Eventually, Pasini walked away but he was not allowed to race for precautionary reasons. The race director restarted the event as a new 16-laps race with the riders in their original grid positions.

Again, Kallio jumped out to a lead he would hold the entire race which saw Franco Morbidelli, Xavier Simeon, Thomas Luthi and Julian Simon all crash out.

F*ck Fox

Just watched this race on Fox 1 and their coverage almost makes one yearn for BeInSport. During the race Fox chopped a few laps from the middle, spent some time displaying some show bikes, and then split the screen for about five minutes while they interviewed walnut-faced Carmelo Ezpeleta about the potential for US riders to make it to MotoGP.
It makes one wonder why Rupert's henchmen bothered to bid for this contract, when they subsequently treat the sport with such disrespect. TV producers would get lynched or shot if they missed a couple of plays of an NFL game.
Now they're doing the same with the MotoGP race!

Herrin's misfortune

Josh probably won't be back next year in Moto2. He simply is not competitive at this level. But I really felt for him today. He was unfortunate to get collected in the mess at turn 2 on the restart. He was just out of the points in 16th prior to the red flag. Really too bad. Hopefully he can manage to finish some more races in the second half and maybe even grab a point in the championship.

Are Dorna just after the money ?
Here in Aus, the free to air gives us 5 seconds of vision of the Moto2 and 3 races after the MotoGP. If they were interested in promoting the series, they'd have a contract that makes them actually show some of the sport - like qualifying ...
I won't pay for Fox because i'd have to buy channels that I don't want just to get the one sports channel that I would watch two series on ....
